THE SCABS - So Called Friends 7'' 1981

The Scabs are a Flemish band that were founded by Guy Swinnen (vox+guitar), Frank Saenen (drums), Fons Symons (bass) and Willy Willy (guitars) 1981 in Diest and had their greatest successes in the late eighties and early nineties. The original line-up of the band was composed in 1979. Strongly influenced by the British punk sound of the late 1970s; they were sometimes referred as the Belgian answer to the Clash. The first single 'So Called Friends' appeared 1981 on Refused Records. After two self-produced singles, the group signed a record deal with EMI. After the 12inch 'Here's To You Gang!' and the less successful debut album 'For All The Wolf Calls' they leave EMI and move to the new label Play It Again Sam Records, based in Brussels and released seven albums. 1996 the Scabs were history. On the occasion of the 25th band birthday they came together again, played a few concerts and in 2015 came their latest record 'Ways Of A Wild Heart' out. That's the short story. I like their first two singles best because these cuts are excellent punk killers, sound & rhythm = TOP!, cool voice and 'So Called Friends' is the absolute highlight for me. Rare record and one of my favourite piece of vinyl.
