VACUM - Rädd För Tystnaden 1980

I'm today in a fine mood so I must post this really AWESOME!!!! Killer album by a band from Sundsvall. After two great '77 style EP's they recorded their first record which was released on Massproduktionen. This album contains sixteen songs, a few tracks are a little bit wave influenced but the most are brilliant KBD tunes and this is what makes this band/album so fuckin' special. They create a terrific deal with these small burr and I can only recommend this album. A little short bio (stolen from their MySpace page): "The first rehearsal with Cathrine Fandén was on the 14th of January 1979 and it worked at once. Then they convinced Stephans neighbour Lars Holma to join on bass and on the 23rd of March they had their first concert under the name of Smudge. On the next gig all the covers were gone and the band changed name to Vacum. On the 12th of August the band went to Gävle and during a few hours recorded and mixed six songs for their own EP and also the track Svartvitt for The Sundsvall Punk EP. Soon after that Cathrine moved to London to be au pair but Stephan and Mats did not give up and instead convinced another childhood friend Anders Olsson to join in on bass and also found drummer Sank Sankqvist who just got kicked out of Pizzoar. The first album was recorded in spring 1980 and during the recording they discovered that Cathrine also could play the piano, and had real talent for it, so soon after the release of the first album a synth was bought and Vacum had found its form. Most of the material was based on ideas of Cathrine that all the others contributed too. The first album opened a lot of doors and the band started touring a lot and the second album was recorded in MNWs studio in Vaxholm." Vacum became the most long-lived early punk bands - So enough words - the band calls for your Attention!

VACUM - Osäker EP 1979 + Maskerad EP 1980

This band is a real phenomenon. Their debut album is already a classic but their first two 7inches beat this. Formed in Sundsvall they had their first vinyl release, I think, on the Sundsvallspunk EP and the other recordings were used for the Osäker EP (better known as simply titled EP), and the six songs on this are amazing, they sound very fresh, not rehearsed, as if the boys just played it off and finished. And this unconcern makes Vacum very simpatico. Released on the cult label Massproduktion in an edition of 500 copies. Their second EP (800 copies) with three songs is also strong and full of magic, truly sparkling and refreshing. With the release of Rädd För Tystnaden they changed their style a bit but the songs still good and grooves in every way. Vacum made with these both records certainly one of the catchiest goodies from Sweden.

V/A - En Samling Rock Från Sundsvall Anno 1985

Endlich Wochenende and I can tell you the last working days were exhausting but now three days off on Saturday the important football match against Bayern. Let's start with a not so much punk record and not all on it meets my taste but it's a rare and solid double LP compilation from Massproduktion, a local punklabel which started in 1979 and have developed ever since and on this slab you can listen to fourteen combos which swim more in the rock genre, and you already suspect it, all from Sundsvall. I think, besides Stockholm and Gothenburg, the city with a lot of bands and probably good opportunities. Well, the only combo I know are Vacum, they made two superb 7 inches and a great album in their early days, at least that's what I know, but their two tracks here are brutally bad, how does that work? Of course, further development is okay, but not like that, my time would be too precious for that. Well, all in all an interesting mix and that counts. Take a sniff!

MASSMEDIA - Das Jazz 7'' + EP-EP-EP 1979

YEAH!!it's done, the SGE is in the cup final in Berlin vs fucking FCB and that will be extremely difficult to win. Anyway, next post: Massmedia was a classic punk band from Sundsvall/Västernorrland who recorded their first EP during Christmas 1978 at Torkhold, a bomb shelter @ Västermalms gymnasium which was also used for punk gigs in Sundsvall. In February 1979 they released their first 7Inch on their own label Massproduktion in a print run of 492 numbered copies and is now regarded as a fuckin' collector's item, even before they recorded the first EP Das Jazz/Jag Vill Inget on a memorable night in the damp rehearsal room togehter with Jan Zachrisson from Diestinct and still one of the most untamed Swedish records. The EP-EP-EP 7Inch follows this year and in 1980 comes the compilation EP with Massmedia, Vacum and Förbjudna Ljud called Sundsvallspunk Vol.1 out. After the delays that hit Sundsvallspunk EP & the Vacum EP they discovered the advantages of pressing in Sweden and under a few months a lot of local punk band released their debut slabs on Massproduktion. The last EP Ingen Hets (listen!) and their only full length Sista Ackordet (ca. 800 copies) were also released in 1980. Musically wild, chaotic, rough & pure impact. Classic Stuff!!

V/A - Planet Punk #4 2005

Second and last part of Planet Punk and with Volume 3, this little self-made series is already complete. H2D#26 is another tidbit full of rare stars from international bands that are still kicking ass, much in demand and popular in our fucking disillusioned times which bring little decent music to light in my opinion. Music is like inventions, there is nothing innovative that can really impress me, hardly any wow factor or thing that I can really admire. And I would say that for almost twenty years. Speaking of music, we all hear & see the so called "combos" thrown together, the TV shows which offer only shit and are played over and over by radio stations, all this crap is boring, repetitive and only geared towards profit, commercial shit and really sucks. It's really intoxicating to get acquainted with such music as on this further fantastic compilation and to eke out an existence far away from this dead & dull society. That are the words for Sunday, Amen! Enjoy the vibes of the good ole days!

It's time to post another selfmade compilation which I made for our vacations and it gets me very sad but I think you will like it. Here's the original description from my old Blog: I'm still amazed that Forward Into The Past is yet popular and is still online, shows that you have taste ;). I also think that comp. is well done and a worthy successor was a real challenge. But here it is: again full with rare music from the early punk days mixed with new stuff, punkrock from all over the world. Once again my deepest thanks to all my blogger friends, supporters and those who provide me with songs and information, and of course those who leave their comments. And here I would like to ask the following question for you and tell me your opinion: How do you like this comp, what song and why exactly this song? Don't spare criticism, numerous comments would be nice. I'm excited to see what comes of you. With this post ends the week with temporarily various stuff and I think it was not a bad choice.
