RAZZIA - Spuren 1991

With their fourth album Razzia came back to their roots and leave the keyboard at home and wrote thirteen fantastic goodies shortly after the reunification of Germany, who express their feelings in entangled lyrics but musically tie in with the first album (Sören also left the band during the production of the album, but continued to contribute to the creation of lyrics and bass tracks. His successor on bass was Christian Both). It's a refreshing one that's more relevant than ever and amazing that singer Rajas has no songwriting credits, all written by the musicians which I think is extraordinary. Short info: Razzia was founded in Hamburg 1979 by brothers Andreas (guitar) and Peter Siegler (drums) and Rajas (vocals). The first line-up was completed by Sören (bass) and Frank (guitar). Unlike Slime, however, Razzia were not a purely politically motivated Punk combo and in the lyrcs, abuses of all kinds were formulated in a very rough and cynical way and implemented very aggressively in the early years. Spuren is a fantastic record with catchy songs and an excellent example how an versatile band come back mercilessly and kick your ass ruthlessly. Absolutely suitable and a solid Razzia record!!!

RAZZIA - Menschen Zu Wasser 1989

Next, another German Punk classic from a band which I appreciate very much and has been with me from the start of my punk life: Razzia from Hamburg. My first encounter with the band was in 1988, together with Bad Religion, a sweaty affair, YEAH! - Founded 1979 by brothers Andreas (guitar) and Peter Siegler (drums) and Rajas Thiele (vocals). Completed with Sören Callsen (bass) and Frank Endlich (guitar). They were not a purely politically motivated punk band like Slime and in their lyrics they were all kinds of grievances often quite dark and cynical formulated and very aggressively implemented by Rajas in the early years. In 1981, the band were with two pieces on the compilation Underground Hits on Aggressive Rock Produktionen. It was followed by an engagement with the Hamburg label Weird System, which also brought out the first album Tag Ohne Schatten. A brilliant D-Punk record. Atypical for punk bands in the mid 80s Razzia used keyboards in their songs and the result is quite superb. Th second album Ausflug Mit Franziska is the perfect example of their musical development & diversity. I bought this record at a concert in the HH/Fabrik in Altona in 1998. On the 3rd album the band is more experimental, electronic beats, spoken vocals ('Stahlherz') and also the synthesizer again targeted use. Together with the morbid typical lyrics and the unique voice of singer Rajas was made a dark, multi-layered album with threatening parts and a dense atmosphere but always offensive. With this album the musical development was promoted again, thus Razzia stood out from the more traditional German punk of the 80's. Released on the bands own label Triton is this one of my favourite Razzia albums. The band is still active and you shouldn't miss them on stage.

V/A - Danach Und Stunden Später 1987

OK Leute, today two records by request and first of these is a collection extreme by the Hamburg label Triton and connoisseurs among you know this is the label of the great HH combo Razzia and after their famous debut album they have already taken other paths, written innovative complex songs away from the HeyHoLet'sGo Punk sound, with keyboards and corresponding length and thus set a new direction with which they raised questions but showed what is musically possible, without losing hardness. This compilation is an excellent example of it, four bands who express themselves lyrically very personally and make this clear in their songs and certainly they don't meet the hardcore taste that we love, no; it's different and is that meant with extreme! Eleven lullabies that confuse, disturb and speak to everyone. Two of the four only on here, unfortunately, as they all have the potential for more. Sexy!

1.Der See - FEUER & HANSEKRACH
2.Mensch In Ketten - FEUER & HANSEKRACH

V/A - Underground Hits 1 1982

- First part of Underground Hits on AGR, brilliant song selection, first-class record, if you see this, a must buy! Volume 2 is a bit weaker in my opinion but has exclusive tracks from Spux and Canal Terror, get it!

V/A - Life Is A Joke 1984

A collection of Punkrock, Hardcore and high energy noise from around this planet. Yeah, exactly and this is the first part of this mini serie, a total of three compilations exist, shot from the Hamburg label Weird System in the 80s into the orbit. I remember at that time I was interested in the publications of the label and bought a lot of records, together with AGR the most important in Germany for essential punkrock. While AGR put its focus on German bands gave the Hamburger international bands the chance to send their demos to them and connections were established, lots of plenty stuff roll in and so they created some damn cool records with awesome songs/bands which are, in my opinion, nowadays belong to the best ever. Life Is A Joke is full with rare tracks, partly nowhere else published, Volume 2 was released as a limited double LP, all records numbered and the first presses come in colorful vinyl, always in an elaborate artwork, made in Germany!

1.Red Threat - FANG
2.Dogs Of War - SAVAGE CIRCLE

V/A - Hardcore Power Music Part 2 1984

A rainy Saturday here and I am fit again after this hard week and as announced now the second Part Ultra Hardcore Power, whereby hardcore is slightly exaggerated. Ten bands, fifteen songs and an absolute increase to Volume 1. This compilation is packed with 85% unpublished stuff and convinced with many renowned German bands and in my opinion one of the most important D-Punk records, again via Mülleimer released, comes with a small Insert and partly in colored vinyl. A must have!

RAZZIA - Ausflug Mit Franziska 1986

Welcome May and you start with crappy weather and what the fuck? So I have to immediately unpack the best Razzia slab and spit in your face. - I guess, the second album was for many a surprise (me included). Was on the debut hard political punk rock recorded are here for the first time synthis used and textually the band become more personal and nested and I came up sometimes with the second listen what is meant in some songs and I recommend you a decent translator to understand all those ingenious wordsMusically, the band use all their instruments exactly where they belong and I appreciate the courage to take this step. I'm not a good reviewer but I promise this record is an excellent document of German subculture. I hope the concert will comin' soon. All thumps up!!

V/A - Keine Experimente! 1983

In the early 80s there existed two essential labels in Germany, Aggressive Rockproduktionen (AGR) from Berlin and Weird System from Hamburg and numerous classics were published on both, while the Waterkants devoting more to the bands than AGR in terms of artwork, limited colored vinyl, lyric sheet, royalties, etc.... but both were significantly involved to give German punk socially acceptable in this country and over and above that. It wasn't as big as AGR, but their early releases count today as important cult factor. WS also became more interested in American bands from the mid-1980s and tried to give new musical impulses, great slabs were licensed and relevant contacts with overseas were created as well. Keine Experimente! was the third release and German bands were asked to send their demos with a bit of basisinfo & lyrics and the result is this fantastic compilation with largely exclusive songs, many became famous afterwards and are still among the best bands in Germany, no wonder that Vol.2 had to follow a year later. Enough Bla Bla, enjoy the old Gassenhauer and a relaxing Pentecost.

V/A - U-Boats Attack America!!! 1986

The Hamburg based label Weird System used to release songs of their records in a limited number of colored wax version (often limited to 1000 or even less) for our overseas punks. In the beginning the records were hand numbered too. Normally the records numbered higher than 1000 are in black vinyl. So this limited compilation licensed to and released by Flipside records in the U.S. only. A kind of Double Label edition. This American release showcases the greatest hits, as it were, of the label. All the bands here are still big ones in the german punk culture of the early 80's and serve up a series of blistering HC and punk cuts mandatory for those who don't have the original German recordings. Excellent, varied sampler. Weird system still exists today but it is not any longer that innovative Label it was in the early years. Today they focus on the re-release of old classics and a lot of compilations but on a very high level. Sad but true but they nearly stopped to release something fresh material. Last for this month, now I'm leavin' home to join the soccer match vs Dortmund.

V/A - Planet Punk #4 2005

Second and last part of Planet Punk and with Volume 3, this little self-made series is already complete. H2D#26 is another tidbit full of rare stars from international bands that are still kicking ass, much in demand and popular in our fucking disillusioned times which bring little decent music to light in my opinion. Music is like inventions, there is nothing innovative that can really impress me, hardly any wow factor or thing that I can really admire. And I would say that for almost twenty years. Speaking of music, we all hear & see the so called "combos" thrown together, the TV shows which offer only shit and are played over and over by radio stations, all this crap is boring, repetitive and only geared towards profit, commercial shit and really sucks. It's really intoxicating to get acquainted with such music as on this further fantastic compilation and to eke out an existence far away from this dead & dull society. That are the words for Sunday, Amen! Enjoy the vibes of the good ole days!

V/A - Never Mind Covid-19 2020

Prost!

WDM Records is back, a new compilation with rare undiscovered German underground has slipped and Part X found its way into my hut about two weeks ago and therefore didn't sleep long on the hard drive. With almost fifty songs, I put together a decent selection on a long Sunday which is very cool, visually & acoustically. I would like to avoid thx at this point, they are honored in the booklet, apart from that, they are the usual suspects anyway. Album title & cover are from Mr. Reinhard, that should be mentioned, and the rest grew on my dung. Musically again a healthy mixture of wave, punk, rock and a few speedys, drawn from various singles & compilation records. # 008 without live recordings is also rarely occurs. Praise or criticism are desirable as always and now, cozy listening pleasure with this little ode to joy. Cheers!

THE CROWDS - Sieger Sind Die Helden 1986

The Crowds is a damn cool punk band from Munich and they kickin' since the wild 80's in Munich - but strangely, they always led a largely unnoticed shadow existence. I first took notice of them via a compilation called Kulturschock Attacke #2. Punkrock gems such as their debut single 'Lügner' and this great mini album were, if anything, only perceived by some music insiders or punks to know and appreciate. And strangely enough, in Germany, very few people know the mega-punk hit 'Little Big Horn', what a shame! Sieger Sind Die Helden (one of my favorite D-Punk slabs, Riot Records) is peppered with eight fantastic tracks, hard and with provocative lyrics as I like it. No leaf is taken in front of the mouth and everything else would have been a disappointment, fat 100% production and they, probably with Razzia, one of the first bands which used a keyboard, absolute brilliant sound. B.T.W., this awsome record is meanwhile reissued with bonus material. This is my fresh rip from yesterday... in this sense.

V/A - Definitiv Zürich 2LP 1976-1986

The long out of print double LP compilation "Definitiv Zürich" + EP is probably the most important musical tone document around the Zurich punk era and thus a piece of history. 36 songs are included here, which retain their cult status to this day, some even were the starting point for the steep careers in national and international pop world. V/A - Rock Rally 1980

Don't know if this record comes out as a result of a song contest but it seems almost to be. There's a lot of letters on the back cover in French so I'm not sure but I think these tell the story about this record. Released via Lark Records and full with twelve rare goodies and I know only two of them, Red Zebra and Revenge 88. Musically is all what I call underground music right there and I particularly like the cover which was made by Joost Swarte, a dutch cartoonist and graphic designer. Pull up the tunes in and a have sunny Sunday.

URRK - De' E Dax EP 1979

Here's one more great 45er from a very unknown band with their only record. Self-financed and in small editions (300 or 500 copies) released, nowadays very rare and what we get are three fantastic punk smashers, b.t.w. awesome cover! A lot of good 45ers came from Sweden and I must say this one is definitely one of the best fuckers and if you don't know what means KBD then this sound is an excellent example. You can read more info at the essential SwedishPunkFanzines site, particularly interesting is the background to the grandiose cover. As I said, all three songs are brilliant, but my favorite is 'Lördagsurrkare'. The singer is there particularly motivated, haha.. he sang later in Razzia. Urrk are present on Bloodstains Across Sweden #3 compilation.

CERESIT - Three Gallows 1985

Founded in Berlin 1981 as Ceresit '81, this is the only album by this five piece, Marcel (vocals/guitar), Sven (guitars), Daniel (bass), Marcus (keyboards), Ralf (drums) on ...Isn't That Cheating? Records. The first Demo, C90 tape, was released in 1984 and three songs from it were re-recorded and immortalized on the Let's Have More Fun Compilation on More Fun Records (1985) among other interesting D-punk combos that formed also in the early Eighties. A second part Fun's Not Dead came to light shortly after and again three songs were taken, why exact the same ones is not known. Well, the band then recorded their album in the legendary Music Lab Studio in Berlin and we know many splendid AGR records and this would have easily fit to the label. Remarkable is the use of keyboards, such as Razzia used on their second album, but Ceresit kept them more in the background, German and English lyrics, musically hard & solid D-Punk with a useful tempo. 👍

V/A - Soundtracks Zum Untergang 2 1982

One of the best compilations ever from Germany are the first two AGR goodies. All bands are great, all songs are damn classics. With these both I grew up. The music is just sensational and the lyrics quite offensive, creating real doom mood. I don't know how often this sound shows me that I'm on the right track (haha) and I mean together with the 'Keine Experimente' compilations from Weird system are these four records the most important and best plates which were ever published here in fuckin' germoney. I think the resonance overseas was accordingly positive. Today this record is re-released but the band name from the Böhse Onkelz was deleted... pitiful if you ask me, but that's another story. 19 glamorous tracks from the good old days and incidentally a request of a good friend is fulfilled. GET IT!!!

Next classic German Punk album is the debut record from Canal Terror and I don't know how many times I played this LP up and down: angry, aggressive, rebellious music which has nothin' lost of their rudeness. Founded 1980 in Bonn by Tommy, Volker and Dominik, 15 to 17 years old, in the following year 14-year-old drummer Rainer completed the band. 1981 published the first demo recordings and a Super-8 film on which they introduced for the first time their most popular song 'Staatsfeind'. In December, the band participated on the compilation Soundtracks Zum Untergang 2 (AGR). Canal Terror played this year their first concerts outside of Cologne and Bonn with Black Flag, Minutemen, Slime, OHL, etc... More demo tapes were released in the following two years. In December 1982 they recorded their debut LP, appeared due to differences with label boss Karl-Ulrich Walterbach, in the spring of 1983. Tommy left the band in 1983 after internal disputes and Rainer moved to the micro. Ex-Toxoplasma bassist Stefan came as a drummer. Frank Glienke ("KutA") was for a few concerts the second guitarist but left the band very soon. The group toured again with Razzia, Inferno, Neurotic Arseholes, Boskops, Die Ärzte, etc... and the recordings for the compilation Underground Hits 2 emerged. Again it come to quarrels and Dominik and then Volker left the band. The band continued until 1984 by Rainer and Stefan and with other members. On the Dutch sampler 'Babylon Bleibt Fahren' the song "Staatsfeind" was in a live version on it and shortly after this release the band split up for good. In December 1991 the band played in the original line-up a unique concert in the Biscuithalle/Bonn, together with Toxoplasma, Die Skeptiker and the British band Urge. In 1992 Red Rossetten Records released a CD with recordings of this gig under the title "Live In Bonn". AGR reissued without the permission of the band their first album in the 90's and so Canal Terror secured in a trial against AGR the rights to their songs. A Review: "Canal Terror produce diverse hardcore material on their debut album, including full-tilt thrash ("Multis," the title cut, etc.), Oi!-influenced stuff ("Bonn-Duell"), '77 punk with melodic guitars ("100 Mann"), reggae-punk mixtures ("Mallorca"), some cool Rock'N'Roll ("Hey"), and even a funnypunk version of "My Bonnie." The guitars should have been emphasized more in the mix, but this record is still entertaining as hell." - Jeff Bale (from MMR #8, September 1983) / That's the story so far, for me another major record which is second to none today.

DESTINATION ZERO - Suiciety 1988

As Punk has lost at the end of the 80's its aggressiveness and hardness a lot of many new bands formed and choose a new direction in terms of punk rock. So here is a good example: Destination Zero, four piece from Hamburg with ex-members of Slime (Elf, guitars + vox) and Razzia (P. Siegler, drums) and they play a solid Rock'n'Roll with a dark touch and nasty words. Their first sign of life are on the great Hamburg '88 compilation with two cuts, 'Kicks' is also on this debut album but in a different version I think, released by the Reeperbahn label Bitzcore, this album struck me like a bomb, hard, excellent production and with a powerful sound that brings houses to collape, really a fat singular release. In 1990 they recorded their second called "Survive" and one year later the last, a mini LP (Mr.Evil), both by Ruff & Roll Recordings released. In the same year the band broke up and Elf played again with Slime. - What's left: a cool album with many highlights!
