TERVEET KÄDET - Black God 1984

Want wild fast short loud songs? Now the opportunity has come: Terveet Kädet (Healthy Hands) were Finnish hardcore punx, the first in Finland and the band was founded in Tornio, January 1980 by Läjä (vocals), Tiimo (guitars), Piäsky (bass) and Peedro (drums). They have had a major influence on bands from all over the world, especially in Brazil (which some have claimed was because of a member from the leading band Olho Seco and his enthusiasm and connections to that country's scene). Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly has mentioned Terveet Kädet as one of his all-time favourite bands. The band's line-up changed several times, and the singer Veli-Matti "Läjä" Äijälä was the only permanent member. The four are guests on numerous compilations. Black God was released via Rock-O-Rama records with a studio and live side, twenty-one killers in just under seventeen minutes. Any questions?

V/A - Wax Attack Vol.1 1998

A collection of rare punkrock. And yes it is. This unoffical release was pressed on Moonie Records and contains eight rare 7inches from the early years of punk by bands from Europe and Overseas. Meanwhile, the songs are almost everywhere in the www to find but the records barely. The selection is not bad, a solid mix of mid-tempo punk and a bit hard stuff and I like it. How many copies exist is unknown and unfortunately no information or scans with it and if someone has I would be grateful for an email. Overall, a decent record that I would buy.

V/A - For What It's Worth? [WDM Special] 2011

From my former Blog, here's a little selfmade compilation I've cobbled together in recent days and includes some known and unknown bands. Thirty-Two Killed By Death crackers from the glory years 1978 - 1987 and decorated with a few live recordings. With the artwork I'm not really happy and I feel not content but hey: Who Gives A Shit?, right... the title I chose for this compilation haunted for a long time in my head around and so now I spit it out here. I have an emotional weekend behind me and I will not use any other unnecessary words now because I'm feeling fuckin' good. V/A - Life Is A Joke 1984

A collection of Punkrock, Hardcore and high energy noise from around this planet. Yeah, exactly and this is the first part of this mini serie, a total of three compilations exist, shot from the Hamburg label Weird System in the 80s into the orbit. I remember at that time I was interested in the publications of the label and bought a lot of records, together with AGR the most important in Germany for essential punkrock. While AGR put its focus on German bands gave the Hamburger international bands the chance to send their demos to them and connections were established, lots of plenty stuff roll in and so they created some damn cool records with awesome songs/bands which are, in my opinion, nowadays belong to the best ever. Life Is A Joke is full with rare tracks, partly nowhere else published, Volume 2 was released as a limited double LP, all records numbered and the first presses come in colorful vinyl, always in an elaborate artwork, made in Germany!

Solid compilation on Cult Records, 1000 copies with no American bands. A final worthy contribution to Christmas 2015. Strictly speaking I wanted nothing to post on these holidays but the music is very good, the record rare and it's freshly arrived and today is the last holiday therefore it's okay. Tonight the hardcore legends from Raw Power visit Hanau and maybe I'm going there. So far so good, enjoy the rest of the evening and have yourself a drink!

V/A - Russia Bombs Finland 1982

The perfect sound for a Monday comes today from Finland, more precisely by Helsinki's Propaganda label (specializes mainly in Finnish hardcore, punk and much more) that gave birth to this fantastic compilation over thirty-seven years ago and has not lost any of its hardness and fresh sound in my opinion. All bands are likely known to every maniac of fast-paced short songs, you can find some records in the blog, and for those who want to discover this heart attack noises for themselves this record is an excellent start, I promise. And if you don't have enough of this plenty harsh stuff I recommend you the essential Killed By Finnish Hardcore compilation by Redrum Records... b.t.w. the first 500 copies came partly with booklet which I don't have.

VIIMEINEN KOLONNA - Onnellisuus Ahdistaa EP 2001

From Helsinki comes this fantastic hardcore band (last column), and this is their first release on Fight Records. And Fuck! what a horny music. Influences of Discharge or Terveet Kädet are here and all the nine songs roars out of the speakers so that these must do a quite maximum job. If I could only understand what these weird guys sing here? The Finnish language is world class and I think the guys are really pissed off. aggressive quick notes that I can always play. The world as a punk rocker is not easy. Everyone who enjoyed classic hardcore 'Made In Finland' can't getting away from this awesome band. B.t.w. great cover artwork.

RIISTETYT - Valtion Vankina 1982

I'm busy ripping records tonight and I'm working on some Hardcore stuff from Finland and I wanna post of course another classic album and I'll recommend this right now: Riistetyt - originally called Cadgers - was formed 1981 being one of the very first hardcore punk bands coming from Finland. The first Cadgers line-up did only one split 7'' with Kaaos, both bands being pioneers of hardcore in Tampere. Soon the band name was changed to Riistetyt and the next release was "Laki Ja Järjestys" EP, also released by P.Tuotanto 1982. It followed the debut album Valtion Vankina (As A Prisoners Of State) and the Skitsofrenia 12" on Propaganda Records. Prisoners Of State & the next release "Raiskattu Tulevaisuus" (Raped Future) were also pressed in Germany by not-so-reputable Rock-O-Rama Records (the band had nothing to do with that as it was a deal between Propaganda Records and Jock-O-Rama). Years 1981-1983 the band did a lot of shows around Finland and ended up on US tour 1984, at that time the line-up and the style had faced a radical change (they also had a rock band Pyhät Nuket "Holy Dolls" those days). After the US tour the band had no other solution than have a break since 1985. 1999 there was a funeral of a classic squatted house "Lepakko" in Helsinki and Riistetyt shared the stage with many other old bands from 80's like Kaaos, Terveet Kädet, Appendix etc. After that they recorded a new 7Inch with new line-up but that didn't last long and after more line-up changes there was a team that managed to play together around five years releasing more records and toured in Europe, Brazil & USA, this ensemble played 2008-2010. In the end of 2010 Jukkeli quit playing drums and Perttu re-joined drumming and the nightmare continues! The latest record "Korppien Paraati" was released 2013 on vinyl and CD. We travel far into the north of Europe to the land of 1000 lakes, dense forests and icy temperatures. Numerous famous hardcore/punk bands enriched us with terrific records and on this little compilation thirty of them are selected and was assembled by three American fans of Finnish Hardcore. "We did this out of our love of the music and to expose these records, which are not widely known outside of Finland to a wider audience. We would like to think we are helping expose these bands to a new geneartion of punx, making it possible for bands to re-issue more classic material. 2000 copies were pressed, comes with detailed info sheet". Thx for that and now enjoy raw, rare Hardcore 1981-1985.

V/A - The End Was At Hand [Special] 2012

This nice comp was created by my Austrian mate Reinhard (at that time for the legendary, much-loved WildDevilRules blog). Cause was the general hysteria the world would end in 2013, according to the Mayas and well, it's doomsday and I wonder why all these spinners in poor hippie clothes such an uprising practice. The world goes down slowly and not otherwise. I must confess, I did not much notice of a new Apocalypse and honestly I don't give a shit. I demand doomsday as a public holiday where we all not must work. Maybe the Mayas sacrificed more people that day as usual. Well fuck it, the masses needs always some shit where they can hold on to, funny that it's always at the turn of the year, has almost become a tradition. Idiots!!! Not only this was the occasion for my Austrian friend Reinhard to create this self-made compilation here but also to put his favorite songs in a splendid selection on a CD, adorned with a glossy cover. And the result is great, brilliant punkrock from all corners of the world in beautiful order. Great Stuff!! A few words from Mr. Reinhard to the CD:

V/A - Kovimmat Takaiskut 1987

Before I go home, a small compilation from the Finnish Poko Rekords label, known of its releases with several different styles. And this record documents their philosophy. Personally, I like varied samplers, there is always something new to discover, sometimes fascinating, sometimes incredibly shit-awful or something inbetween. The Lizard track for example, is a hermaphrodite; has a brisk rhythm, woman on the microphone, sometimes two-part but the saxophone is annoying, that works okay in the good ole Rock'N'Roll days, and not always there either. Then rather Mekaaniset Kakut with their drum machine, short & concise. Their only 7Inch is cool as well. I would say 85% of the mix is worth listening to and that's enough for a positive overall impression. Feierabend für heute.

VAURIO - A Shout From The Night 1984

From Turku are Vaurio and they were founded 1981 by Sauke (vocals), Masa (guitar), Sidi (bass) and Brando (drums) but Brando left one year later the band and new drummer Minni came in and this line-up formed the band's standard composition and also played on all Vaurio recordings, while other band members were either visiting or just being there for a short time. The group was active until summer 1985 after which it re-assembled only on May 11, 1990, at the six-year anniversary celebration of the turkish Aura brewery. Vaurio is part of the Finnish hardcore punk movement from the early 80s and recorded one EP, Sortoa Ja Vainoa on Propaganda Records in 1983 and this full length which was released via Rock-O-Rama, the German label we all love... and two tracks on the great Finnish Spunk/Hard Beat compilation (coming soon), also on the Cologne label. Vaurio's sound stands for short fast songs, not so aggressive as Terveet Kädet or Riistetyt, rather slight melodic mid-tempo songs and in between, of course, short catchy numbers, fourteen nuggets in twenty-five minutes. Fuck info at the end: singer Sauke died at the age of 38 in 2003. - In his honor: A Shout From The Night!

VANDAALIT - Betonikolossit 7'' 1981

Vandaalit (Vandals) is a punk band from Hyvinkää. They have been active as musicians ever since the mid-70's, when they were known as Hard-Boiled and performed Hurriganes-type rock'n'roll in English. It all changed in 1977 when they heard Ramones' 2nd LP "Leave Home" being introduced on the radio. The boys changed into fast punk rockers, opted a new name Schlachthof Fünf (did they read Vonnegut?) and soon switched to singing in Finnish after seeing punk pioneers Eppu Normaali. Vocalist Vesa Häkli, bassist Sepi Rautiainen, guitarist Pekka "Piitsi" Huhtakallio and drummer Ari Lindroos debuted on record as one of the eighteen bands on the legendary punk compilation Hilse (1979). Apparently their song became so popular that they were allowed four songs on the sequel "Hilse 2" (1980). One of these four songs were their first-ever composition "En Ole Nainen". Making his debut on a Vandaalit recording was new guitarist Jari "Klide" Pelkonen, whom the other guys had noticed playing in a punk band called Hermones. Sepi Rautiainen headed off to Canada after the debut album was released and lived there until his death from cancer in the liver in 2004. Aki "Appa Nasaretilainen" Kuronen became the new bassist. Another assignment for Häkli was Billy Boys with Terveet Kädet man Läjä Äijälä. Two singles and a mini-LP during 1983-1986, described as experimental electronic psychobilly. Ari and Klide formed hard glam band Sticky Fingers in 1984, and made the "Fight For Fun" LP in 1984. Vandaalit decided to re-unit after seeing each other on Klide's 30th birthday. This reunion lasted for three years and produced two more albums, 'Apinoiden Platta' (1992), which the boys regard as their best, and 'Psykoakatemia' (1993). Vandaalit took great care in their street boy/labourer image, with leather jackets, and guitar straps so long that the instruments almost sweeped the floor. On their records they were far from any preachers or intellectuals, just fun-loving guys who liked playing music much more than going to school or work.

BRUTAL - Tappavat Pisarat EP 1989

As the band's name can be guessed, energetic, wild, brutal music for your ears. I know from Finland either sing along punk rock in the best Ramones-style or classic hardcore like Terveet Kädet. Brutal belongs to the second category. Six Hardcore pissed off nuggets, all just under six minutes and then the spook is are already over: Terrific! - Unfortunately I have not further info about the band but this EP on Kahlenukke Records is damn fuckin' cool. VITTU EI KIITOS - s/t EP 2004

Debut slab with six great Hardcore goodies from Rovaniemi, Katja and Jukka Jonza from Turku and released via Höhnie Records! Founded in the summer of 2002 at the Arctic Circle! All four people in the band take lead vocals, all sung in native Finnish, the sexiest language in the world! Zero cover versions! Six own songs in the tradition of old Terveet Kädet, Kohu-63 or Shitter Limited, but none with these bands really comparable! Recorded in studios Napalm/Tampere, the capital of Finnish HC punk! The first 500 copies appeared in white vinyl. From the cult factor hard to beat!

Hui, now it becomes more violent with this damn compilation released via BC Tapes & Records, no idea if this is first as a tape comin' out, does not really matter. Excellent hardcore stuff, mostly bands from Italy present and they bang everything neatly in two. But also the rest mercilessly attacks the heart and catapults the pulse upwards. Twenty-nine nuggets, somewhere pressed on the bands records but many only here banned, too bad the insert is a bit poor. 1700 copies pressed on black vinyl (this version). 300 copies were pressed on blue vinyl for mailorder. Egal, this record was also licensed in red vinyl by the Munich label Starving Missile in the same year with one extra dick.
