HERBÄRDS - Eu! Se Bois 1983

The Herbärds were founded 1982 in Stuttgart by Jörn (bass), Moppel (drums), Oimel (guitar) and Tek (vocals). They originated from the oi/punk band Total Kaputt, which Oimel founded at the turn of the year 1978/79 and in which Jörn already played and the Herbärds are considered one of the first German Oi! bands. 1983 they contribute two songs on the Ultra Hardcore Power compilation and shortly thereafter they released their debut album Eu! Se Bois on Mülleimer Records (007) and the songs were recorded on one day live in a small studio near Stuttgart with lots of beer and good mood. On the second day a song was mixed as a basic setting, a few effects of a noise plate to it, plenty of beer and the recording was done. During this time they played many live gigs, especially in southern Germany. On small punk festivals and some together with the friendly punk band Normahl. But also with sizes like Cockney Rejects.

In 1984 Micha joined a saxophonist and extended the previous oi-punk with ska influences and 1985, Micha, Jörn and Moppel got out and Willi came in on drums and new bassist Timo. One year later the second album Wakos appeared on Rat Records. Shortly thereafter the musical direction changed again and the band renamed themselves first in Balzer Ross and then in Overload. 1987 singer Tek had a serious motorcycle accident in which he lost a leg and the band paused after this shock. Two songs Wir and Goldfieber appeared on the first Tollschock compilation on Pedder's label Skan Productions in 1989. Ein Kurzer Augenblick followed on the second part of the Tollschock series. All three songs Tek played with friendly musicians, under the old band name Herbärds. 1999 Oimel and Tek decided to provide the Herbärds with fresh wind again. They were supported by Macke on bass and Rolf on drums. In 2000 the third album Wir Sind Zurück was released on Teenage Rebel Records and Eu! Se Bois as CD with black cover. There were also live concerts in Stuttgart and Freiburg. 2017 then the live comeback, as part of the book presentation with exhibition: Wie Der Punk Nach Stuttgart Kam.

V/A - Ultra Hardcore Power 1983

I know this is not the Hardcore Vol 1 sampler that was required (I'll post it soon) but this one is just as essential. It's the first compilation from Mülleimer Records, the third most important German label in my opinion and have released in six years a few cool german punk records which are nowadays very sought and you can find a few of course on wdthtc. On this platte five bands, Normahl had at that time two records out, their legendary Stuttgart Über Alles EP and their first album Verarschung Total, Chaos Z with four cuts which are already sound dark and personel and already have the later Fliehende Stürme touch, all exclusive. In Stuttgart at home german Oi! combo Herbärds with their first vinyl outputs, two decent streetpunk numbers with funny lyrics. In 1984 the band released their debut album and they're somehow still active. Then Inferno from Augsburg and their classic hardcore tunes which made them interesting for the American punkers and their first album Tod & Wahnsinn is a blast (comin' soon) and last but not least Bluttat from Mülheim who unfortunately did not make the breakthrough, although they had three first-class brilliant hardcore albums with aggressive lyrics and they have been honored by Colturschock Records with a compilation called "Raw And Pure 1981-1984" (1000 copies) with old & rare goodies and I can recommend this record because it's fuckin' great. For a first label compilation not bad, everything sounds very raw and genuine and a year later Part 2 came out with more German underground noises, a better production and with bands which are not under contract upon Mülleimer and on the record are 100% exclusive tracks and it comes also in 192k/Bit in less than eight days. V/A - Der Tollschock Sampler 1989

This one's for Uncle Joe by request and I own the record for a long time but it's one I must sell off, needless to say why. Well, this is one of the first releases of Pedder's (R.I.P.) label Skan Productions which he founded end of the 80s and there are not many stuff published there but a few bright moments and this first compilation is one of them. More than half of the songs so far unpublished and the fourteen tunes are a healthy mix of Oi!, Punk and Psychobilly and a beautiful ballad on the end. Cool title, nice artwork and all lyrics/infos inside.... needs to be hear loud!

BOOTS & BRACES - Aufrecht Gehen EP 1987

This is the debut EP by Boots & Braces, an Oi! combo from southern Germany, founded 1983 by the Walz brothers. After a few rehearsals, they found bassist Alfred, who already left in 1984 as the brothers moved to Hohenlohe. He played the first demo and a few gigs with the mates of Herbärds. Gigs in Germany and France followed and in 1986 the band expanded to include singer Ralf and shortly thereafter the first single was released. Their album "Wahnsinn" appeared 1988 on the right-wing label Rock-O-Rama and brought the band a bad aftertaste because at that time only shit bands appeared on the Cologne label (although the band has no political statements in its lyrics, it was assigned to the right-wing rock due to the former label-affiliation to Rock-O-Rama and performances with well-known nazi bands. From the mid-1990s onwards they tried to get rid of their "right reputation as a band". The band explained in interviews not to be interested in politics, but they wanted to exclude anyone from the start. Political phrases of any kind would not be tolerated at concerts). After the release Alex quit again but with 16-year-old Martin they found a new guitarist, which leads Matze changing to the bass. More records + gigs followed and currently the band is pausing. In any case on this record are three fine Oi! classics which bring fun.

V/A - We Don't Need Nuclear Force 1985

Another important but small German punk label was Mülleimer Records from Stuttgart which put out some very good records from 1981-1986. Bands like Chaos-Z, Boskops, Normahl, Herbärds, Inferno and Maniacs, etc.. were thus known and this piece I think is the only international compilation on MR. The first pressing contained a strictly limited bonus EP and is much sought nowadays. A little review brings the sound to the point: "A pretty good world sampler featuring mostly previously released material that falls under the ranks of punk, hardcore, and post-punk. Some of the talents in the limelight are BOSKOPS, VARUKERS, TOXIC REASONS, RATTUS, WHITE FLAG, BRISTLES, and many others." - Martin Sprouse (from Maximum Rocknroll #36, May 1986)

Today was sunny so we need the second compilation on Pedder's label Skan Produktions with more bands which partially appear for the first time on vinyl and all fifteen songs are exclusive and unpublished (status 1991 of course). The creative individuality of each band speaks for itself and, with all its diversity, fits into a provocative and homogenous whole. Pogo Ist Trumpf my Friends! A perfect continuation to Tollschock 1 in my opinion. All scans included.
