V/A - Hardcore Power Music Part 2 1984

A rainy Saturday here and I am fit again after this hard week and as announced now the second Part Ultra Hardcore Power, whereby hardcore is slightly exaggerated. Ten bands, fifteen songs and an absolute increase to Volume 1. V/A - What Doesn't Hurt Us Makes Us Stronger 1985

Friedrich Nietzsche adage "That which does not kill us makes us stronger!", a wise sentence I believe. So reason enough for the Berlin label Destiny Records to bring out an excellent compilation with this quote. Of course here many Berlin bands are represented together with the Ami fraction which ensure at that time for furore and the divine hardcore punks from Pisa. Partially goodies on it which can only be found here but most of them are on the bands own records or released as 7inches which are also difficult to obtain in these gray days. The first pressing comes with title in golden letters, my copy. The repress was with white. Offensive music for offensive people, not grow weary.

1.No Words - C.C.M.
2.Build It Up - PORNO PATROL
3.Ausbruch - ZERSTÖRTE JUGEND

MANIACS - Chainsaw Blues 7'' 1987

More aggressive & raw punk sound with this German combo: The Maniacs were a hardcore punk band that formed in the summer of 1982 in the Hessian town of Rotenburg an der Fulda from some local bands (Blutverlust and Bunker) and they from the beginning at home in the English hardcore punk style. In their lyrics, the band took on classical political punk themes and sang against nazis and mainstream society.... Their first demo tape from 1982 called "Attack" and their second "German Tanks", both are true gems. Then in June 1984 their first vinyl release came out on Mülleimer Records, a split album with the Gottingen punks Tin Can Army. In May 1986 the second album The White Rose Of Resistance appeared and it's today a rare album with tons of hits. Singles and sampler contributions followed, a lot of gigs in Europe were made and after a short tour in France the single Chainsaw Blues emerged, which was published in May 1987 on the French independent label Terminal Records. A live album followed and in 1990 their last record 'Thrown To The Dogs' was released via the Kassler label Black Fantasy Records. So pay tribute to this unforgotten powerful Hardcore/Punk band which often accompanied me in my early punk days.

MANIACS & ZYKLOME A - Split EP 2017

Two fantastic bands which were active in the 80s and significantly shaped the rough fast hardcore style. Two songs per combo, all four already published but here in different versions, I guess they are demos, at least they sound more raw and edgy. I like that scruffy sound and they are always welcome. I have re-upped all the records in the blog so that you can enjoy them to the full and I promise you, there are divine specimens among them. Maniacs were punx from Rotenburg an der Fulda, formed 1982 and disbanded in the early 1990's. They made three albums and two 7Inches. Zyklome A were punx from Bonheiden, active from 1980 to 1985. They made one album and 7Inch in the mid 80s. Solid release by Power It Up Records.

V/A - Punk Rock Rarities Vol.2 1996

And immediately the second and final part of the Punkrock Rarities by Anagram and the spirit of this CD is the same as the previous one. It brings us again closer to rare 7inches by lesser known or short lived bands from the British Isles, and giving them the respect they deserve. Together with Vol.1 they form an absolute glimpse of what was happening on the fringes of the big bands and the scene was anything but tired. Music that does its deserved rounds and is a perfect introduction to the UK subculture for all newcomers and dirty old freaks like me. Enjoy!

V/A - We Don't Need Nuclear Force 1985

Another important but small German punk label was Mülleimer Records from Stuttgart which put out some very good records from 1981-1986. Bands like Chaos-Z, Boskops, Normahl, Herbärds, Inferno and Maniacs, etc.. were thus known and this piece I think is the only international compilation on MR. The first pressing contained a strictly limited bonus EP and is much sought nowadays. A little review brings the sound to the point: "A pretty good world sampler featuring mostly previously released material that falls under the ranks of punk, hardcore, and post-punk. Some of the talents in the limelight are BOSKOPS, VARUKERS, TOXIC REASONS, RATTUS, WHITE FLAG, BRISTLES, and many others." - Martin Sprouse (from Maximum Rocknroll #36, May 1986)
A good start for Sunday hopefully tonight ends with 3 points.

1.Bob Hope - APPLIANCES
2.Cross To Bear - UPROAR
3.God Bless America - TOXIC REASONS
4.Warheros - BRISTLES
5.Addicted To The Night - MANIACS
6.Ticket To Moscow - WHITE FLAG
7.I've Got A Picture - AUSBRUCH
8.Boskops - BOSKOPS
9.1984 Part II - BRISTLES
10.Deutschland Brennt - AUSBRUCH
11.Victims - APPLIANCES
12.Cross Dogs - WHITE FLAG
13.Feministi - RATTUS
14.Seek & Destroy - VARUKERS
15.Doctor Moreau - HHH
16.Atomkrieger - NORMAHL
17.Wehr Dich - AUSBRUCH
18.Jede 7 Sekunden - BOSKOPS
19.Can't Get Away - TOXIC REASONS
20.Blood Money - VARUKERS
21.We Have The Right - VARUKERS
22.Medley - RATTUS

MANIACS & TIN CAN ARMY - Split 1983

I want to present you another hot record, this time a split album of two German combos, released on Mülleimer Records, another important label from Germany, which has not published any shit in my opinion and the first one comes in blue vinyl and is nowadays very sought and if anyone has a nice copy with both inserts drop me a mail. OK, on the a-side the Maniacs from Rotenburg an der Fulda set the level already high with their english-hardcore style, founded 1982 by Peter (vox+bass), Peter (guitars) and Kai-Uwe (drums) and they released two singles + albums and two members are unfortunately already deceased. The lyrics took up classical political themes and against right-wing extremism and established society. In 1991 the band split up. Tin Can Army, abbreviated as TCA, was a hardcore punk band from Göttingen, which existed from 1982 to 1987. They released one 7Inch, one album and many songs on various compilations, some you can find on wdthtc. Especially the demo recordings are now regarded as cult. In contrast to the recordings published on records, these recordings are much harder and better recorded. The Ox-Fanzine called the band as "best German intelligent Punkrockunderground, which is after twenty years later still gripping." All Right, join the hardcore sound and have a wild Tuesday

MANIACS - The White Rose Of Resistance 1986

In the mid 80s Mülleimer Records released the second album by the Maniacs from Rotenburg an der Fulda and they were founded 1982 from some local bands (Blutverlust and Bunker) and were very influenced by the English hardcorepunk style. In their lyrics, the band took on classic political point themes and sang against right-wing extremism and the established society. They released four albums, three 7Inches and lots of brillaint compilations tracks. On the split with Tin Can Army they slotted decently forward and the twelve songs on this album, I'd almost say, more melodic and mature and mostly over three minutes long which is unusual for a Punk record. But they make it strong and I would almost say this is their finest album. Make yourself a picture and look forward to the long weekend!

MANIACS - Bootlegged At The Bootleg 1988

Already regulars on wdthtc and I always like to post a record of the four. and they are worth searching for. Hessian punx Maniacs recorded their live album 1988 at the legendary "Bootleg" Club in Augsburg, which unfortunately had to close after three years due to massive problems with local residents. Released via Rise & Fall Productions and the four shoot out thirteen powerful, but never dull, hardcore bullets with a political statement and the British influence is clearly audibly. In addition, the fantastic recording quality make this album an enjoyable experience. The song selection is also impressive, as you can read below, and guarantees energetic positive vibrations.

Salute The Survivors/(Funeral Of The) Glory Men/Chainsaw Blues/Weltkrieg/Hardcore Punk/Addicted To The Night/Conscientious Objector/Gimme The Bullet/Deutschland/Danger Eyes/Violence/Traveller In Time/New Morning

MANIACS - Chelsea 77 7'' 1977

Nothing new but damn cool and I'm stealing a bit basics from discogs: "Alan Lee Shaw (guitar, vocals) and Rod Latter (drums) came at the end of 1976 from Cambridge to London and founded alongside John "Twink" Alder and Dennis Stow (bass) the group the Rings. Following a few live gigs and one 7Inch "I Wanna Be Free" the group parted ways. Alan and Rod found via an add in Melody Maker the new bass player Robert Crash and the Manicas were found. The first concert was in France (Mont De Marsan Punk Festival) with The Clash, The Damned, and The Police on the same bill. In September 1977 the band recorded five songs, two of them made it to be released as the "Chelsea '77/Ain’t No Legend" 7Inch. In January 1978 the band split. The Maniacs were one of 1977’s original first flush Punk Rock bands in London signing to United Artist Records." Immortalized on numerous compilations and always welcome, not ordinary for a short-lived band.

SURF PUNKS - My Beach 1980

Last one today and actually I wanted to post 'Locals Only' but I can't find it anymore so I'll take the second album by the Surf Punks, a PopPunk band from Malibu. I must confess the Surf Punks are a bit to poppy for me, sure they have punk riffs and it's without doubt a good record but to be honest, they blow me not out of my socks. I don't know but I came not in, it pass me by like a leaky faucet or a stale beer, you know. And by the second hearin' I still find nothing special on it. Maybe this is not my kind of music, too lame and to commercial. Well, I'm sure a few maniacs of you search for this album and now happy that it's available here. Tonight a concert with Klotzs and Panikraum in Excess and I know it will be a long funny evening.

V/A - Made In Britain 1980

I'm too lazy to write, only this: all songs here are great, awesome wave/punk songs from these four delicious UK bands, the LP was only released in the U.S., the makers probably knew why. I quote from back cover: " 'Made In Britain' - a hallmark shared by four bands signed to Polydor during the last two years. Backgrounds are varied, musical styles influenced by differing cultures and lifestyles, and yet they share a common bond...music of the highest quality. The Invaders, formed in West Yorkshire but more recently based in London, offer you tracks from their debut album, including their 3rd single 'Magic Mirror'. Described as "almost definitely the most melodic of all the postpunk bands" (Sounds); to the Invaders their music is personal & emotional, with its function being to communicate. Four lads in Bradford formed Excel whilst still at school , and their antics both on stage and off have won over club audiences throughout the country. Fun loving nutters or original popstars? - the music tells all. "Every once in a while, there pops up a piece of pop music which puts to shame the rest of that inherently genre" (NME). The Reception for 'Independence Day', second single from The Comsat Angels. The bazz about this Sheffield band almost drowns out the noise of critics clamouring to review their first album. Protex burst out of Belfast in 1979, playing a personalized brand of dynamic, snappy tunes and conquering audiences nationwide. The four teenagers have toured throughout Europe and even the East Coast of the States. They sing 'I Can't Cope' - we know different." - Brilliant compilation for all of us music maniacs!!

V/A - It's Bigger Than Both Of Us 2 LP 1988

Excellent kiwi release of this essential two record compilation from 1988 covering an extremely creative and buoyant period of New Zealand alternative/punk & pop music between 1979 - 1982 where music of the more "indie" nature really made an impression on the hearts, minds and souls of legions of real music maniacs. So the thirty tracks we get great hits from the likes of The Spelling Mistakes, The Clean, Screaming Meemees, No Tag, Blam Blam Blam, Proud Scum and more other great bands and a number of lesser known but equally thrilling out fits. Lovingly compiled and basing the set purely around singles really gives the listener a feel for the time and era, and a number of these tracks genuinely shaped the sound of New Zealand underground music for many years to come. Even with the current renaissance in 'historical' New Zealand pop compilations this set stands head and shoulders above the rest simply because of its focus and the era covered. This is an essential purchase for any New Zealand music fan.

STRESS - O Ixos Tis Anasfalias 1985

Stress might very well have been the one & only greek band with a high-paced punk '77/KBD sound, in a scene full of post-punk (& later on hardcore) bands. As far as their (sociopolitical in nature) lyrics go, they seem to encapsulate all the events & agonies of their generation. The band released two albums and both records have been highly sought-after collector's items for years on end. The band started playing shows at around '81-'82. The first singer later formed Panx Romana. Their first appearance on vinyl comes in 1984, on Enigma's now legendary collection DIATARAXI KOINIS ISIXIAS with two songs. Check an Interview from 1985. The sound here is much more primal and agressive than the two songs in the aforementioned collection ("Aghos" reappears here in a punk version). It is obvious that most of this material was written around 1981-1982, when the band was still under a heavier "mood", musically & politically. Great Stuff for hardcore maniacs, you will not dissapointed!!!!

DECLINO - Terra Bruciata 2LP 2017

I thought, I had already posted something from this great band, but even after checking it three times, I didn't find anything except a few compilationsWell, it's time to change that today, and the best way I can do that with a fucking great release by F.O.A.D. Records. We're talking about Declino, a four piece based in Turin, active between 1982 and 1985, and they were one of the most influential Hardcore/Punk bands in Italy. Members were Sandro (vocals), "Mungo V.R." Bertotti (guitars), Max Occhiena (guitars on A1 to A9), Silvio (bass), Orlando (drums on A1 to A6), Roberto (drums). They were featured in early MRR reports on the Italian Punk/HC scene and were also featured on the essential P.E.A.C.E. double LP compilation on Radical Records! Their style was a very energetic clash of speed, rage & creative songwriting. They were definitely the first in their area to develop a mature style that leaned more towards the intensity of full-on Hardcore than the rawness of Punk.

So this essentiell Anthology (limited to 550 copies on black, 150 copies on ultra clear vinyl) includes all their existing studio recordings, consisting of: the debut EP (1983), Mucchio Selvaggio split tape/LP with Negazione (1984), three unreleased tracks (1984), Eresia 12″ (1985) and a complete soundboard live recording (Denmark 1985) never released before in its entirety. I know all you maniacs of angry and raw energy will love this double album, and all you others as well.
